In 1980 Kite Day left the farms of western Massachusetts for the surf, sand and sunshine of Martha's Vineyard. Base camp was established at Ann & Elmer's cottage.
The day saw strong off shore winds that took many kites out to sea (never to be seen again). These are the only pictures of the event that have been located.
